I promised myself – this year I’m going to be more real, raw, and vulnerable than I’ve ever been. I want to share the good things in my life, but I also want to spread awareness that struggles and obstacles in life are NORMAL. We all go through them. And, they are ok to talk about!
Last night I shared a post about financial struggles. But, I want to be clear – I don’t allow struggles to define me or dictate my life. I view life struggles as an opportunity to learn and grow. After my post last night, I received a private message on Facebook from a girl who read my post and made reference to how “I wasn’t doing well”. I have to kindly disagree. I am doing well! Shit happens in life. How we react to it is up to us. Regardless of our situation; I LOVE my life – the good, and the sometimes-not-so-good – because I choose to.
How many times have you woken up in the morning, and you just felt like you were in a FUNK? Maybe something crappy happened to make you feel this way, or maybe you just simply feel “off”.
How do you cope? How do you snap out of a funk?
1. Focus on the Things you CAN Control – Not the Things you Can’t.
If you’re focusing on all of the negative things happening in your life, or if you’re focusing on a negative mood; ask yourself, “How is this serving me?”. The truth is, it’s not serving you at all – it’s causing you stress. Focusing on the negatives will only bring more negatives into your life. And, stressing about the negatives doesn’t fix anything – it only effects your mood and holds you back from actually fixing the problem. If your problem CAN be fixed…take ACTION instead of wasting time and energy throwing yourself a pity party.
Exercise doesn’t only help your weight and body image…it elevates your mood too. Like Elle Woods says, “Exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins make people happy. And, happy people don’t kill their husbands”. I know…bad joke! But, seriously…exercise improves your mood and mental clarity.
3. Eat Clean
You guys knew this was coming next, right? It’s true! I personally stick with a keto eating plan (veggies, protein, healthy fats), and I stay away from processed foods and sugar as often as I can. The better you eat, the better you feel.
4. Get ‘Prettied Up’
I know you may not feel like putting yourself together some days, but those are the exact days you NEED to. Take a shower, do your hair and makeup, and wear one of your favorite outfits. You will feel confident and great all day!
5. Get Outside
Take a walk. Appreciate nature. Soak in some vitamin D. When I’m cooped up in the house too long it definitely impacts my mood. The sunshine makes me happy.
6. Work off of a To-Do List
Are you procrastinating on doing something? I’ve noticed I am the happiest at the end of a productive day. Being unproductive puts me in a “blah” mood. Make a to-do list, and check those suckers off. It’s more gratifying than you realize. Slay your day.
7. Clean your House
Do you ever notice your life feels chaotic when your house is a mess? I know I do! Maybe I notice this more because I work from home? Our house has to be picked up/clean before I can feel good.
I have to admit, I used to think meditation was silly – until I went to a seminar and heard the keynote speaker say, “A quiet mind is a powerful mind”. Try out one of my favorite guided meditations HERE. It really does make you feel amazing.
9. Turn Up the Music
Take a drive by yourself, and blast some of your fav music. Instant good mood <3
10. Pay it Forward
Do something nice for someone else. Not only will it make THEIR day, but it will make YOUR day too.
Take a date night with your spouse to reconnect. Reconnect with your friends and your family. Hug your kids. As humans, we are wired to crave connection. When your relationships in your life are happy, YOU will be happy too.
12. Sleep it Off
Some days may not go your way. And, that’s ok. Bless and release whatever is going on in your life. Say a prayer; Give it to God. Envision what you DO want in your life – manifest it. And, get some sleep. <3 Tomorrow is a new day full of possibilities.
And, remember…God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle. You got this. <3
